RE: [HoE] Templar Observation

Some spoiler space....

Well, he was in the group. And he was even drawing some fire. But...and I
guess I'll have to explain a bit further...

Essentially, the Servitor's lifeforce was tied to a girl's nightmares.
There were two options: kill the girl, or "psych" her out of it. A couple
of members of the group were already halfway to psyching her out. They
weren't letting the Templar kill the girl (although it wasted some of their
time having to keep her alive when he was trying to kill her until they ran
far enough away), and the Servitor having that Immunity/All kind of thing
that Servitors typically have, the Temp couldn't do anything to it. Rather
than wait another round or chip in to help himself or draw a bit more fire,
his plan was to step aside and invite it to go off after his comrades.

Herein lies your problem -- you have just stated that killing the girl was
an option. It may not sound pretty or nice, but if he is as stern as you
say, one death can save hundreds. Also, if the child is essentially feeding
the Servitor, it is an accomplice (albeit an unwilling one) to all of its
actions. It isn't unreasonable to come to the conclusion here that the
child is not innocent.

As for the party protecting the power source of a servitor -- sounds like an
unworthy bunch to me. The Templar code specifically states NOT to throw
your life away in such cases.

Don't get me wrong -- I'd go for trying to save the kid. As a Marshal,
that's what I'd want the posse to do as well. My desires as Marshal,
however, have little to do with whether or not the Templar acted properly or
role played the situation well. Given that you asked for my opinion on the
matter, I would argue that it would be unfair of you to not give him the
Power. He played well and within the rules of the Order. If you disagree
with me, I would suggest that you take the player aside and explain exactly
what is what and why, in your campaign world, things work that way. After
all, if he expects your world to work one way, based on your prior actions
and statements in the books, and find out is works another, you are being
arbitrary -- a big no-no for the Marshal.

Now that doesn't mean that another of the Saints might not take umbrage at
his actions and require him to make ammends. Again, discuss it with him and
involve the players he abandoned. Send him on a visionquest. Make him
adopt the girl or go get something she needs to heal from the trauma. There
are ways to work through this rather than act as a wrathful saint.

Just my $.02
