Tracy, I would definitely say something to the store owner. Clearly you
are wanting to understand what happened, and it's in their best interest
to try to understand it also. If it seems that it was an accidental bump
caused by exuberance on the dog's part, then it seems that your son needs
a chance to understand that and reconcile with the dog. On the other hand,
if your son simply touched a tender spot and it caused that reaction, the
dog should not be unsupervised in a location where that could happen again
at any time.
