[HOE] MPH/pace Questions

Well, no offense Michael, but this doesn't strike me as entirely helpful
from a mechanics point of view. Besides, I'm even talking an "average
person" with d6's seem a little too fast. Still, thanks for the
response.

Thank you, Rich. My point. But this begins to lead into a whole
different argument on interpretation of the game environment. Let's try
to stay away from this. Play a "last action hero" or don't - that's not
what I'm attempting to discuss here.

Yup. And no one's even tried to address the issue of why the pace for
vehicles in RR was determined with a 2.5 multiplier instead of a
straight 2 yet...any takers?

An all too familiar response. I realize this, but it is trying to
_simulate_ realism. Or shall we just accept the fact that most normal
folks have all got the pick up speed of cheetahs in the WW, and write it
all down to mutation due to background radiation? Anyway - thanks for
the response.

Ah, but it's not "my math" - it's RR's math. That's basically what I
said:
"for example 5 MPH = 0.5 inches, multiply inches x5 to get yards = 2.5
yards...or 0.5 yards = 1 MPH"
By extension, one inch = 5 yards. To restate, the error lies (IMO) in
the book's "apparent" (since it's not expressly given as such) mechanic
for converting yards (pace) to MPH and visa versa. Your math seems
correct (thanks for the detailed example), but doesn't reflect the game
mechanic that's given to us. It would seem that vehicle pace is
different than "living being" pace, in which case, again I have to
wonder why they were named the same thing. And there's still the fact
that a 2.5 multiplier was used to determine vehicle pace in RR...anyone?

Nah. I understand that. To quote myself:

My issue is more with the top speed folks seem to be capable of. Thanks
for the detailed example though.

Again, this seems to make sense, as did Dirk's more complicated
breakdown. However, this isn't the mechanic supplied in RR which is
what I was questioning. Still, thanks for the well thought out
response.
