The issue here isn't about "heroes."  Any random, average person in
Deadlands can beat a car off the line more often than not.  Your
High-School track star example is a person who trains and practices at
doing nothing but running fast, moving at about half the speed that a
normal person does in Deadlands.
But hey, they're heroes, right?  Not only should heroes be fast, but,
unless Superman has lied to me, they should also be able to fly, have
X-Ray vision, knock over buildings with their fists, shoot lasers from
their eyes, be bulletproof and wear tights.  Why shouldn't they do that
in Deadlands.
We're talking about heroes, after all...
