Speaking as a Templar player, I have a response. Templars get all these
neat powers that are almost always 'on' and they can become virtual
powerhouses. If they live that long. Eventually, someone will track a
Templar down for letting his village get burnt because the Templar
thought the world was better off without people like this, the Black
Hats will find them, other thugs looking to earn a quick buck will find
them [Throckmorton has a bounty on Templars], et cetera. That's one of
the reasons Templars can't just walk around with Tabard and sword on for
all to see. The other is the fact that they've pretty much elected
themselves to judge humanity, and must remain anonymous, lest enclave
residents [good people or otherwise] "put on their best behavior"
because a Templar is around and they want his help [until whatever
nastiness follows the Templar back to town and they lock the doors on
him]. Those are roleplaying reasons. The second reason is *cost*. Sure,
"Inner Strength" is always on and it gives you +1 per level for all
Strength tests, including damage, and if you manage to live long enough
to get a Greater Reward, the Templar's Strength jumps a die type. In
order to do that, however, you must first pay 30 Bounty Points over a
minimum of five game sessions and live long enough to frag some big
nastiness to get the Greater Reward. Those 30 points could also raise a
Trait die type to a d10, give you newly learned skill at a professional
level [5], augument existing skills, et cetera. The Templar gets +5 to
his damage, *IF* he's using his sword or an unarmed attack, or 'Joe
Normal' character can buy 'Shootin': Rifle' at 5, assuming that he
doesn't already have a "Shootin'" Concentration [in Hell on Earth.
Right. Maybe if he's four years old] that he can simply spend three
points on to buy another Concentration and take the other 27 points and
put them into something else.
Next character, "Gunslinger". Why? Less point-intensive and a 2d12
Quickness might very well mean that I put a pill between a Doomie's eyes
before he cuts loose with 'Nuke'....
Besides, the world's awash with supernatural energy and we're Heroes.
We're supposed to be really powerful so we can commit atrocities upon
bad guys/ Evil Nastiness [is 'Evil Nastiness' (TM)'ed?].
But, that's just what I've learned from playing a Templar, it's just my
opinion and I talk a lot....

I don't know about that. IIRC, it's a John Goff Dime Novel. In Other
Words, it's a meat-grinder waiting for you to shove your posse into that
little funnel on the top ;]
