I think the only way a Huckster lived 200 years is that he is smart enough
*NOT* to cast too many hexes...
As to *why* life has gotten tougher, how about because the freaking
Reckoners are walking the earth?
They broke down the barriers and are able to suck up the fear all by
themselves.
This means that the Manitou can hold onto more fear and become stronger
themselves...
Those same barriers also protected the "Old" Hucksters to some degree...
Now they aren't afforded that luxury..

The manitou are stronger/smarter. It is, therefore, more difficult to trick
him into powering a hex...
A lot less hexes are successful, because of this...
