I meant to reply to this a while ago, however somehow managed to get
distracted. The first line of Jeff's post says it all.
So far I have had 3 characters become harrowed and have run a nightmare
scenario for two of them and am in the process of sketching out a
third. Two of the characters have got D12 spirit so the nightmare
scenario becomes pretty lengthy.
Most of my players have email access so I tend to use this to work
through the nightmare scenario out of game time. What I tend to do is
sketch out the nightmare scenario and split it into a number of parts
equal to the characters die type. The end of each of the parts
requires a response from the player via email (this generally has
little effect on the next section apart - however I do add some filler
text to make the two sections join together smoothly). I try and get
the player to respond with how there character feels about what is
happening about him as well as his actions (I try and add in little
bits of setting which are definitely not right to see if they are
accepted by the character). Generally as I type out each part I have
an idea as to where the dominion point will go depending on how the
player responds - of course sometimes the player does something off the
wall which requires some further thought and rewriting however this has
only happened once so far.
Once I have written each of the parts I simply email them out and await
the response. When I get the reply I type the few lines connecting
their response with the next section and send it back. Typically we
get through 2-3 parts each day - but it depends on how busy we are.
So far the scenarios have worked out pretty balanced, with one
character getting a 4:4 dominion split and the next gaining a slight
7:5 advantage.
The great thing I've found is that I can repeat similar sorts of tests
in different scenarios as the players don't talk to each other about
their nightmare scenarios because they were conducted out of game time.
Anyway I hope this was worth waiting for!
Cheers
Roy
