[BNW] Reaction to Glory Days.
Well, I finished Glory Days not too long ago. Thought I'd put down
my initial reaction and thoughts on it while the impact is still fresh.
First up, it was a great read. I really enjoyed the
background/setting material, and it was nice to get a more optimistic
and light-hearted feel to the game. If I have to gripe, Matt, it's
because you made Sparky so likable. I genuinely felt for the kid, and
knowing what his life is going to be like after his exuberance in this
book makes for reading with a chill. Like becoming friends with Anakin
Skywalker.
Now, as for the power packages. . .I thought they were cool. True,
Translators may not be of much use in a modern day campaign, but it's a
power I like all the same. Mastery of all written and spoken languages?
I know I'd enjoy that power (even if only to pass my French class). The
Dessicator and Dunemaster packages were also neat. Werebears?
Weresharks? Very nice. Can't wait to sick those on my unsuspecting
players. The gadgets? All I can say is your supercarrier has my wheels
spinning on an idea for a Defiant stronghold. . .updated for the 21st
century, of course. Heh heh heh. . .
All in all, a very strong effort. One small complaint though, I
wish there was some color in the book. Glory Days, four-color
superheroics, why not a little color? I know, expenses, expenses. Still,
it would've been cool.
Is it me, or does it seem like the delta powers are being. .
.directed somehow? It seems to me that a delta's powers upon awakening
aren't as random an event as we're being led to believe. Deltas first
emerged in WWI, then with WWII you see more powerful deltas and the
emergence of Superior. It's almost as if there's some method in the
delta phenomena. Wheels within wheels. . .
