I don't like this idea at all, but that's just me.  THe problem I see with 
stuff like this is that they essentially replace a Trick the char already 
has.  Instead of really improving his repetoire or diversifying his power, 
he is just upgrading (at an extreme cost involved).  If I did this at all, 
they'd all be the same cost, b/c you have to buy the lower level ones first 
and then the higher one.  So you spend 30 points and can do Massive Damage, 
but that's all you can do -- which is why I wouldn't do it in the first 
place.

I suppose I can see why folks might like this approach, but I still 
wouldn't increase the cost each level.  It just reminds me of the ADnD 
spell list.  "Well, now that I have Improved Whatsit Spell, I won't bother 
with the lower version anymore."  Shrug.

But if it works for you and your group, go for it.
