Well, the gadgeteers are quite unspecified at this point, so gadgets
would
tend to be the "all-in-one" kind, not the "specific use, small item"
gadgets.
In other words, no "self-sharpening pencils" or such things -- unless
they
are part of a larger gadget...
Frankly, though, the Gadgeteer stuff does seem a little harsh,
specifically
the part about only maintaining one gadget....
Some suggestions:
o Make the number of gadgets a Gadgeteer can maintain three instead of
one.
o Make the maintenance roll a little different: They must maintain a
gadget
at least once a week. For every day the gadget functions without
maintanance,
the Guide rolls a d6 (i.e. 1d6 for the first day, 2d6 on the second,
etc).
If a 1 comes up, ouch! The gadget fails, and must be overhauled. (It
would
fail at a point appropriate for the Guide, of course...) This makes
it in
the gadgeteers interest to maintain their gadgets frequently, but
eliminates
the need for it to be *every* day... (Actually, you could just get
rid of
the "at least once a week" part, because by then you are rolling 7d6
-- and
it'll likely fail!)
o Introduce a new trick similar to Fine Tuning that is used when a
gadget is
created to give a bonus to the number of days a gadget may be used
before
it needs to be maintained. Call it "Superior Design" or something,
and
make it only take place on two extra successes on the Tinkering roll
to
create the gadget.

Well, they could be... There's nothing to say that the gadgeteers can't
be creating suits to a particular standard... and occasionally throwing
in
something... "fancy"...

Actually, it does say that each pilot has a gadgeteer assigned to them
who is
both mechanic and mentor.. And you know at least one of them is
Scottish...
