One of the unique features of TRAX is that it has the potential to be played to infinity. This is theoretically possible because TRAX is not constrained in any way by the limits of a playing board.

In practice however, very few games last longer than 60 moves, and even these are a major effort on the part of the players involved. The largest recorded serious game (where players were trying to win) was a LoopTrax game which took 179 moves, using 421 tiles, with dimensions 26 tiles wide by 36 tiles high.

Because there are several categories of game lengths, it has been decided to assess long games as follows:

1. includes games that ended with a winning move after at least 60 turns. The length of these games is given below as N where N = the number of the winning turn.
2. includes games that were resigned in circumstances where the opposing player had a definite win in sight after at least 60 turns. The length of these games is given below as N/O where N = the number of the turn when the game was resigned and O = the latest turn on which the game would have been won had both players played the game out to its optimum potential.
3. includes games that were resigned after at least 50 turns in circumstances where the opposing player did not have a definite win in sight. The length of these games will be given as N/? where N = the number of the turn when the game was unnecessarily resigned. There have been no unnecessary resignation games that have reached 50 turns to date.
