Re: [pyrnet] Training?/Horses, dogs

Well sue, there were 2 horses that came in that could not even
stand, they were so starved and weak. One never made it. Died the
next day. They were 'removed' from their owner (actually bought)
by a man who was a real jerk. (at least to people) He was driving
by and saw the owner beating them with a 2 X 4, pulled up, bought
both horses for $200.00. Arranged for transport and brought them
to the barn at which I rode. (he must have had a kind heart on
some level, but he really was a jerk!) He did spend a lot of
money on the one that survived, re Vet care, etc. Over the course
of a year she learned again to trust and be trusted. Once she was
fully recovered, both physically and emotionally, I was told that
I could no longer ride her. seems his daughter had decided she
was now 'interested' in the mare. (See? Told you he was a JERK!)
I still worked with her when they were not around. Her
conformation was not the best by any means, but she was smart as
a whip. since I could not ride her anymore, I taught her tricks.
She would bow, shake hands, sit, and roll over on command. We had
a great deal of fun together, and she never forgot me, at least
as far as I know. When the property was sold, she was moved
elsewhere and I never saw her again. But I was a teenager then,
and probably took a lot more chances than I would now in working
with a less than trustworthy horse. Perhaps it was my trusting
and naive attitude that allowed these fearful and abused horses
to trust me. Who knows? BTW, Goldie (that is what she was named
as she was a Palimino) never did much care for the man's
daughter. <G> But, she behaved!
