RE: [pyrnet] Training?/Horses, dogs
I'm a softy for the needy also. Our welsh mare we have was a rescue as well.
I was looking for a Childs hunter pony for my daughter, and came across
Bell. The poor thing was at least 100lbs under weight, had extreme case of
founder ( her hooves were badly malformed, and there was no recognizable
frog at all!), worms, mange, ect...ect. She was totally unsuitable for my
daughter, but I just couldn't leave her there. I bought her on the spot. For
$600! He wouldn't come down in price, but I just couldn't leave her. She has
the most incredible loving, trusting nature, even after all she's been
through.
Two years later her feet look almost normal, aside from the rings, she's put
on way more weight then necessary...bad mommy :( and she's the easiest pony
I've ever had the pleasure to train. And although, she'll never be the
equestrian animal my daughter needs, she'll always have a home here.
We ended up having to buy her another pony, as Bell's feet and pasterns
would never stand up to jumping fences.
It makes me sick that any animal has to go through pain like that!

Well sue, there were 2 horses that came in that could not even
stand, they were so starved and weak. One never made it. Died the
next day. They were 'removed' from their owner (actually bought)
by a man who was a real jerk. (at least to people) He was driving
by and saw the owner beating them with a 2 X 4, pulled up, bought
both horses for $200.00. Arranged for transport and brought them
to the barn at which I rode. (he must have had a kind heart on
some level, but he really was a jerk!)
