Re: [PyrNet-L] Re: Estrus and camping

    Hi Ted & all,
I would think that it is as long as your willing to watch her with
constant vigilance and expect that in any given moment a male dog picked up
her scent & be on her like lightening you both may be all right.
I took Lexi to my pyr club PYFENY this summer when she was in heat. All
was well. ( BUT, she wasn't yet in her breeding cycle either). There with the
intact pyrs. My neutered Jonah is another story. Like usual when his Lex is in
her heat he frequently tries to mount and sire to her. Hurumph! Pyr people
said that he was unique for doing that. But then, I knew that he was unique
already! <VVBG>.
Perhaps you might take some precaution's with her on the camping trip. One
might be having her wear an old pair of your underwear. Not trunks, but the
Jockey short type. Her tail going through where the "family jewels" normally
go through.
On the other hand, the worry and concern may not be worth the hassle of it
all for you. I do take Lexi places at times when she's in heat. Not least of
which was with Jonah to Canada to have her breed to Ruffy. It was not too bad.
When I travel with all or one of my pyrs, I am constantly aware of everybody &
everything anyway because of the nature of pyrs. I don't mind. I'd rather have
them along then not most trip's than not!
Perhaps there is one question that you might ask yourself, the same one
that I have asked and answered for myself. If the worst happened and a male
dog did get to her, am I willing to take Lexi for an abortion to save &
preserve the breed and to prevent a possible life threatening birth?
My answer is yes, without any doubt. What would yours be?
Whatever you decide have fun. Both of you!
    Have a great Pyrenees day!
    Yours in pyr spirit,
    Judith, Jonah & Lexi
