Sounds really typical, Michaelene! I don't think they "run away,"
exactly--there's just so much world out there to explore! Ivy managed to
open the latch on my new gate just after I'd put it up; she was just down
the street a block, sniffing around in another yard, and she was quite
happy to come home with me when I got her leash on. But I know she'd be
off again, given the chance!
