[PyrNet-L] Care,Chat: Off she goes!
I had my first experience today with the "no recall" Willow. Now I know that
she's only been with me for a week and things may get better...but I sure was
shocked...even after all I've learned and have been told about the Pyr
selective hearing! Today when I got home from work (I take my dogs with me) I
opened the car door and didn't grab Willow's leash quickly enough! Off she
went down the drive sniffing and exploring...not paying any attention at all
to my call or my plea. She didn't run...just strolled away. So, the only thing
I could think of was to tell my GSD, Tony, to go get her! He tried...he really
did, to herd her to me but what worked in the end was Willow going into my
neighbors garage and I was able to grab her in there. Once I got my runaway
little girl she came with me...no problem. She acted like nothing out of the
ordinary happened...and maybe it didn't to her...but my heart was pounding and
I was scared to death! I've never lost a dog in my life and I've never had one
before that just took off! This fluffy, white, gentle girl of mine is going to
keep me on my feet! Once she is more comfortable in my home I intend to begin
obedience training with her...hope it works...wish me luck!
