[pbmserv-dev] multiplayer ratings
For two player games the ratings are zero sum so that
if a subpopulation of people play a number of games
against each other, their average rating remains
constant. By making multiplayer games have one winner
and several losers, we set up a situation in which
rating points are constantly being sucked out of the
system (I am discounting the overall adjustment of
everyone's rating).
Whatever scheme we come up with, let us please make it
zero sum? If we are to err, I would sooner err on the
side of being slightly positive so that playing a lot
has some small net benefit.
Cheers,
Lyman
PS That being said, to be honest I pay no attention
whatsoever to ratings in multiplayer games personally
:-). Maybe my ratings explain that fact...
