Re: [HOE] Unity Spoilers in Lost Colony

I guess it's time I chimed in here.

In no particular order, here are some answers to your questions.

1) Clint Black is almost always right. Good lord, you'd think the guy worked
for us. ;) You should see his Savage Worlds Starship Troopers conversion!

2) Why do most vehicles look like they're from the '80s? Because they look
cooler. Really, that's the answer. HOE was originally envisioned as "The Road
Warrior" with monsters. It's grown considerably larger than Mel's movie, of
course, but when we asked George Vasilaskos (now of Eden) to draw the cars, I
told him I wanted Road Warrior type vehicles.

3) The Unity has normal "space ship" armor, maybe a little tougher than the
space shuttle. As was mentioned by Clint and others, I assumed it had
Hellstromme's special energy shields for any attacks directly against it--and
those would work against supernatural forces (demons) as well. It was also
never intended to go toe-to-toe with demons--smaller, faster ships from its
launch bay would go from the Unity's emergence point to wherever it needed to
go. In my head, at least, if Hellstromme needed to go back into Hell and
really get into a fight, he'd build "cruisers" and other larger ships.
Consider the Unity a well-armed scout ship.

4) Clint's observation that the legions of Hell just *might* be combat-able
is something I've given quite a bit of thought to in the history of
Deadlands. The answer is yes, and no. Think of it like the world. You can
drop into certain places, and given enough firepower (both mortal and
supernatural--depending on what you're fighting), do some serious damage. The
problem is that there are many, many powers in Hell who (in my head) have the
ability to sense trouble (or at least receive calls for aid) and then can
either move quickly to aid or even teleport in. But they can't all do that.

Finally, there are certainly a few major powers in Hell on the scale of the
Cthulu Old Ones, but they don't tend to get involved unless there's a real
threat. They're a little more---distant. Even a major invasion fleet by
Hellstromme would probably seem like a rash to these powers.

I won't get into the rest of Hell here--that's a subject for the Black Book
if it ever comes out (don't even ask right now), but should help in this
conversation.

Thanks all,

Shane (and there's no way I could afford crack on a game designer's salary)
;)
