Trace amounts???  Look at the formula for gunpowder (mainly KNO3) or
cordite (nitroglycerin [C3H5N3O9] and nitrocellulose plus some oil
and acetone) and you'll see that there's plenty of oxygen in
comparison with the nitrogen and carbon.
