Ooh, I'm all a-quiver.....

Yes they will.

Yes, normal explosive chemical reaction firearms will work in space because
thye are purely chemical reactions that don't require oxygen above and
beyond that alreayd found in trace amounts within the explosives and the
shells. After all, if they didn't work, how would the main rockets on the
shuttle work? They are, after all, a controlled chemical explosion.

Only in a small way. Remember that the "effort" required by the expanding
gasses to move the bullet down the barrel is rather less than the effort
required to move the weapon, and by extension the person holding it. That
means that something like a .22 would probably set you moving at an almost
slower-than-perceptive pace, whereas a .50AE will be a bit quicker.

Something else to think about as well is pivot. If you hold the pistol in a
normal aim and fire when you are floating free in zero-g you will pivot
about your central point as well as drift back. The Traveller concept of a
'snub pistol' is a large calibre, but small propellant charge, pistol held
pulled into the waist and aimed with a laser sight, designed specially for
zero-g.

If you want a more scientific breakdown I can page the TML / TNE-ML with
this.

        Hope this helps,
