[HOE] Seven Virtues, Seven Vices



This is another idea I had, somewhat related to the Angel thing. I was
trying to think of some way to get around that whole Angel of the
Lord/Humanity must save themselves thing when I came up with this:

There are Seven Virtues, similar to Pier's Anthony's Incarnations of
Immortality, but these offices are held by mortals. Initially, all the
offices would be vacant or held by an NPC, but these are positions that
could be earned by a PC who performs certain deeds associated with that
office (if its currently vacant, that is), much like how the Patron
Saints work for the Templars. Becoming a Virtue is a lot like becoming a
Servitor, only this time you're working for the Good Guys.

Now that I mention Servitors, there are, of course, Seven Vices, one for
each deadly sin. These positions are filled in much the same way.
Actually, the bad guy in Leftovers would be perfect for Gluttony. Not
sure about the others.

As each Virtue/Vice gains in power, they gain chipped abilities, like
Patron Saints only more powerful. Lemme see if I can give an example...
maybe Hope:

White: Immediately cancel and ignore the effects of one failed guts
check for any one person within your sight, including yourself.

Red: Spend after you or someone else makes an aptitude roll for
anything, no matter what the odds, even if they just went bust. The roll
automatically succeeds. For the purposes of determining successes,
assume the difficulty of the roll was 0, so even rolling all ones is
considered a success.

Blue: Anyone who can see or hear you when you use this power is immune
to the effects of fear and terror for the rest of the day.

Legend: You may remove a single hindrance from someone, including
yourself. The points of the hindrance don't matter, it's just gone. Yes,
even lost limbs can be restored, although explaining how without some
serious suspension of disbelief should be interesting...

Anyway, something like that.
