RE: [HOE] Re: [DL] Quality of Downloaded books (SHANE&PEG Folk)
I haven't yet downloaded any pay-for PEG material, but I will. Just a
matter of when. I won't be getting the Back East books, cuz I already have
the print version. I will get Rain O' Terror, and Epitaph 3. I _might_ get
Law Dogs, if enough was 'revised' to make it worth while for me. I bought
the revised main books, I might as well buy the revised supplements, right?
;-) Really, tho, if it's just a matter of fixing errata I won't get Law
Dogs, but if it was really brushed up with the revised rules too, then it is
more worth my money.
As far as any thing else goes, I don't buy the books just because of the art
work. Art might get me into the game as a newbie, establishing mood and
flavor, but as a veteran (o' the weird west!) it don't do all that much for
me. And I think the downloadable format is for the veteran Deadlands
buyers. We're supposed to know what the game feels like. As long as the
print is clear, I feel the quality will be good enough. And since as soon
as I download the book I print it on my laserjet, lost files (on my end)
aren't a risk. I even know where to get some orange paper to make a cover,
if I feel the need. Too bad all my books spend their time in carry bags, so
I can travel to our gamesite and home again. No bookshelf for them. :-(
The whole debate on the value of downloadable format is such old hat, tho.
Pretty much all the list folk chimed in with whether it was a good idea or
not already. I do hope that this thread doesn't harrow that topic up again.
However, if this thread is going to become a venue to review the material
("Dude, you gotta get Epitaph 3! It's got IngredientX in it!" or "Rain o'
Terror is awesome! My posse will be scart for weeks!") please bring it on!
And continued updates from the listers that paid for a download that didn't
complete would be appreciated too. I for one want to know how well
Cybergames deals with something like that.
