It isn't the browser that decides what page to open if no page is specified.
It's the http server program.  Most (but definitely not all) look for
'index.html,' 'index.htm,' 'default.html,' or 'default.htm' when you don't
provide a specific page name in the url.  Default page selection can also be
turned off.  Depends entirely on the settings on the server.
