[HOE] Re: Witch Healing Poultices
For reference purposes, here were the original questions I had regarding
the Witch Healing Poultice:
1.) How many wounds may one poultice heal?
2.) How severe can a wound be and still have the poultice take effect?
(ie. can you use it like "skin glue" to reattach a limb)?
3.) How long does a poultice take to apply to a wounded area?
4.) How long does the poultice take to heal a wound?
5.) Does a person have to be at rest to have a poultice take effect?
6.) Once made, can anyone apply a poultice?
And here's my responses to the helpful folks who took the time to answer
them:
Baron11,
Thanks for the response. I agree that it looks like its supposed to
heal all the wounds to one location. As far as severity, since Sykers
and Doomies can heal a maimed wound (level 5), why not Witches? Perhaps
it would be case by case with the nature of the wound ("neat" removal of
the limb, versus a mauling). The one minute time factor seems to work
OK. That's 12 combat rounds, and I suppose you could even reduce time
by wound level (1 wound 10 seconds, 2 wounds twenty, etc.). I'm afraid
I don't agree with the instant healing factor (same time for one wound
or five to an area...wha!?) at all...far too unbalanced. I'm more
inclined to use a time mechanic similar to the other AB healing powers
(Templar's lay on hands, Grape's touch of the doomsayer, Syker's
fleshknit), perhaps (books aren't in front of me) going with the one
that takes longest. We are in agreement that the target should probably
not be moving around much, but I don't see how a medicine roll would
provide any sort of benefit in application...this isn't traditional
medicine, per se. Perhaps if the person had a medical background in
herbalism or folk healing, but otherwise? Eh. Anyway, thanks once
again for the response. It was helpful.
Smiling Bandit,
Thanks for the response. Okay, so no "skin glue". Fine. Your
application time of 30 seconds is half of what the baron suggested, but
still seems reasonable...until you get to the Deftness thing. I'd think
"splashing it on" vs. actually applying it and working it into a wound
wouldn't be nearly as effective...it sounds like you can hit even part
of the wound with the stuff and have it heal the whole thing regardless
with your thinking. Can't agree with that. Also, regarding the TN 11
stun check...um...no, I can't agree with that either. Combining it with
your deftness, what's stopping a witch from using her healing poultice
as a weapon using brawling or somesuch, sloppng it into an opponent's
open wound. Sure the wound would heal, but you've got a good chance of
dropping your target on the stun check. I've got the feeling it wasn't
intended to be used this way. I'm afraid 5 seconds for the healing rate
seems too fast for me (see my reply to the Baron above). Still, thanks
for the response. It's helpful to see how other people have handled it
before deciding how I'm going to do it.
If anyone else has dealt with this in their groups (or if anyone from
PEG would like to enlighten me...something official _would_ be nice),
I'd appreciate any additional input that I can get on the subject.
