[HoE] Axes (was HTH Defensive Bonus ?)

But shouldn't a gamer just "know" based on his experienced on other RPGs, 
and parrying rules, and defensive bonuses, how this should work?

*shrug* The funny thing here is that the _more_ experienced you are as a 
gamer (in this case, the battle ax thing, or any other), the less that 
experience is going to help you as you realize there is no consistency.  
I've seen such a broad range of nomenclature (War Axe, Battle Axe, Great 
Axe, Hand Axe, various Japanese variations from my Bushido days...) and a 
broad range of damage that might help to determine the "size" or handedness 
involved, and such a wide range of techniques, that the only thing my 
experience tells me is that there is no one consistent guideline.

So an experienced gamer can't really tell, and a newbie can't really tell.  
Thus my original question...
