Not a typo. The maximum Hindrance points you can take is 10, but you can
spend any points you want on Edges, including aptitude points and points
from hindrances and VotWW. And, yes, any somewhat open-ended character
creation system like this can be abused but it should actually balance
out okay most of the time. If you have a player take nothing but Edges,
he won't have some of the basic skills that all characters need. If the
character doesn't take any fightin' or shootin' skills, then all those
edges might not be much help. Likewise, if the character fails a guts
check, or even better, make the character try to swim, and you'll
probably see the player ask to redesign or make a new character.
