RE: [DL] Thoughts on Old Pete {Spoilers}
No spoilers actually follow - but it's a potential.

It sounds like everything went right, to me. :-)
Stone is not meant to be unbeatable - but a posse has to be derned good and
derned clever to be able to do it.
What you might want to do is "retire" what's left of the current party and
start with a new set of characters. Now that Stone's power level has been
_perfectly_ established, when the new party encounters Stone they are going
to be crapping their chaps.
You might even be able to make it a long term adventure. Weave in the
surviving member of the previous posse who is running for his life from
Stone and this famous hero runs across the new party obviously scared out
of his wits. A few mumbled lines about "beating the bastard once" and maybe
a diary left behind - and then a gruesome death and a new party of heroes
has to step up to the plate.
That sort of "Nightmare on Elm Street part 27" sort a thing. :-)
