[DL] Re: Los Diablos

SPOILERS!

No posse reading beyond this point!

That's a keen idea! My advice would be this: you need
to get the posse in a position to where they can't get
away from where they are, and can't interfere with Los
Diablos. My two off-the-top-of-the-head suggestions
would be:

1) If you have any NPC shamans in your game, have one
of them offer to show the posse something. Do up the
campfire ritual, and then let them watch the scene you
describe unfold some hundreds of miles away.

However, describe it in a way that makes the posse
almost ghosts. They feel like they're present, they
can smell the brimstone and feel the earth shaking but
can't affect the material world in any way. This has
two effects: it allows you to really put something
into the scene, and it gives them clues as to what Los
Diablos sound / feel / smell like. When you send them
after the posse, let them smell and feel their
immpending presence for at least one story before the
actual arrival, to build up some tension for them.

2) Prison. This one is trickier, since the PCs will be
focussed on ways to get out of jail and help the Hero
rather than on your description - but you could
imprison them, just for one night; based on a bar
brawl or something. The Marshal who arrested them is a
Hero, and they smell / feel the arrival as before and
watch the death through their barred cell window.

Like I say, off the top of my head that's the way I'd
do it. Let me know how it goes!
