I'm working on a campaign concept for a Deadlands
campaign, which I'm looking for ideas for.  I've only actually run the game
a couple times, and am looking for any advice, ideas, etc. I can get.
:)
The basic concept: Idle rich English
businessman is part of the Explorers Society.  He engages in a
'friendly little wager' with a Texan (also of means) in regards to their
respective hunting abilities.  The wager is to bag as many specimens of as
many types of creatures as possible, and return to Denver with them intact
(there will be a one year time limit, so there should be some skullduggery
between the rivals to get to their next stop before one of the others
does).  The PC's are recruited by the Englishman to assist him in this
Weird West safari.  I actually thought about the idea of the 'rivals' also
being PC's (we have some fairly experienced gamers that can handle
inter-character conflicts well).  Containment/processing for the 'bagged'
critters would be an issue, as well as the general "Around the World in 80 Days"
feel I'm trying to establish.
The first adventure would likely have to be the
'recrutiment drive' to draw the PC's into the mess.  However, open
auditions would likely be a bad thing, considering the unwanted attention it
would invite from the Agency/Pinkertons, and/or the Texas Rangers (we do,
however, have a Ranger PC who might join either group 'undercover').  I'm
wondering if there'd be a way to do such an audition under a 'cover' of some
kind, or if there might be a better (or other ways) to pull this
off.   Erm... help?
