I would say "no" to allowing martial arts to be related to brawling, unless 
you want to get into detailed comparisons of different fighting styles.

I have known quite a few martial artists over the years (including two 
members of my current gaming group), and most of them would agree that 
brawling is significantly different than possessing actual martial arts 
training.

IM a bit dubious as the difference in technique is quite a bit, but then
