yes, you would be correct in assuming he has to have a
hand free, it's my understanding that though the cards
"appear" in the huckster's hand you can't really hold
cards in a hand (and use them) that's already holding
a gun, or lifting something heavy

I'm not exactly sure where this Hex is described
are you sure you're spelling it correctly?
