[DL] Maze Dragons are pansies

Ok I don't really think so, but I obviously need help running them.  Let me explain the situation briefly.  I am running my first campaign, having a group of people who have never played DL before I decided to kill them all in the first session, actually I decided to have everyone have a horrible nightmare in which they all died :)  My idea was that I would then have an excuse to give them all of thier chips back, and in the process teach combat by the expedient method of doing )  Thus the Maze Dragon, but now comes my problem, my party killed him without losing a member.  Feeling pouty I decided it was a nightmare and stopped counting wounds, wrecked the boat and ate them all.  Now aside from the pride I feel in having my group of neophytes whack a dragon, I am also worried about my ability to run critters.  So can anyone help me out with some tips on eeking the most mayhem out of monsters.  Or did I just overestimate the power of a maze dragon.  I feel kinda like I tried to knock down a house with a nuke, and I couldn't do it.......grrrrrr.
