[DL] Re: What happened to the Union?

Sorry, but the last post got sent earlier than I wanted it too...

>New Mexico and Arizona were never claimed by the CSA

Wrong. You may wish to read up a bit on the actual 1862 NM/AZ
Territory Campaign.>>>>

Thank you, good sir. A quick google search pointed out my ignorance on this subject. Would it be plausible, however, for the NM/AZ territories to be considered part of the Disputed Lands, instead of CSA proper?

In fact, the explanation for those areas (now that I've re-read it) is much better, as it basically says the CSA's got the only military forces in the area, so they get those territories "by default." It gives me the impression the CSA's hold on that area isn't very strong. Which I like for scenario-making purposes, as it's easy to see the Southwest be very much like Kansas....(Union raiders, etc etc)

I found the Missouri section. I can certainly accept a mad general as a good reason to switch sides.

Which leads to a follow up question- with the CSA doing so very well and the Union so poorly, how has the political climate within the Union changed? I imagine that they are getting very, very frustrated about losing land to the damn rebels, the blasphemous Mormons, the damn injun's, the accursed British, Grimme's wacko cult...

So after the war with the CSA winds down, what stops the USA from re-taking the Sioux Nations and Deseret? (Not to mention a reckoning with Canada.) Without their forces spread so thinly, the Union should be a force to reckon with...

Last two questions...

1. Someone mentioned Davis' death- when did that happen?

2. Would there be any interest in a thread on extending the history of Deadlands to the near future? I've made various notes on how a long, long campaign might go- Mexican invasions, Aztec coups, the conduct of the war...
You know, plausible 1878 and onwards scenarios. I'm just wondering if I'm the only one keen on discussing that sort of thing. (Alternatively, we could also do 'alternate histories of the alternate histories...what happens if Lee does die of the heart attack, what if Lincoln doesn't get assasinated....)
