RE: [DL] Salty Sailor Talk

This came up in my game last weekend, actually - my posse had captured a
wanted Maze pirate, who's an ex-Confederate-raider, and (to cut a long
story short) scared the pants off him and he agreed to help them with
something in exchange for being turned free before getting to Shan Fan,
where Long-Haired Tony was waiting with a rope with his name on it.

Anyway, the posse got what they wanted, and decided that it'd be a lot
easier to just turn him in and get their reward than have him roaming the
West knowing what they know, so they said sorry, we're double-crossing you,
and he replied in bad Western language.

<<Snip!>>

Oh very nice! So much for the "law of the west". I suppose the posse doesn't
include a preacher or anybody with the loyal hindrance? Hello Dungeon
Master, I'd like to report an alignment deviation!!

IF it were my game, I'd let the doublecrossing polecat posse members have it
for their callousness. Two possibilities come to mind. The first one was
inspired by the Count of Monet Christo. The pirate escapes with the aid of a
bunch of his old war buddies who are looking for a captain after theirs was
cut down by a chaingun. They recently hit it big and have the ducats to
spare. He, meaning the embittered pirate, keeps a low profile at first,
gathering information on the posse while at the same time embarking on a
smear campaign exposing the members' duplicitous doings. Soon the posse is
hurting for work as the whole honor among thieves comes comes back to bite
them in their collective @sses. And then, when the posse's at their lowest
and desperate for funds, Mr. Pirate, through one of his subordinates, hires
the posse to raid a ship which turns out to be one of Big Eared Tam's, now
the posse's got trouble with the Triad.

Another much simpler possibility is the pirate comes back as one of harrowed
who's manitou has complete dominion and the Unholy Host power.

Let 'em have it Marshal, the Weird West is for heroes!
