Well for one thing, it's a huge stroke to a person's
ego after a horrible week at work. And it's much less
of a headache to the Marshall/GM if they're not
authenticity devotees and are willing to surrender
some level of absolute realism for creative license.
I'm not disagreeing with you, far from it. I'm
probably one of the strongest "it's not just a game"
advocates I know. However the level of realism in a
game doesn't necessarily factor into that for me.
