Wow, this is great stuff! I got Bacchus as a 12-week old after having a family of four Labs for over 20 years. As you can imagine, it was a steep learning curve for me! And it took me months to learn not to take it personally that he didn't eat his food, didn't want to be cuddled up next to me, preferred to be outside ... and yet, when I went to a Pyr event (he was 10 months at the time) several knowledgeable folks in the breed commented on how "attached" he is to me! Now Bacchus has learned to get up on the bed with me, usually in the morning, and he will allow me to pet his head and scratch his belly as he lies upon his back ... and that's about as much lovin' as he can take. No kisses from him either - except for little children and disabled people! Last year I took him to an indoor winter farmer's market for socialization, so when it started up again this year I took him back. He walked nicely by my side through the crowd but with his head down below his shoulders, unless he was approached by children and then he perked right up. Then a 30-something man in a wheelchair saw him and motored right up to him - and Bacchus went right up on his lap with his front paws, put his face in the guy's face and the guy planted a big kiss on Bacchus' very wet nose!!! Yuck! But Bacchus' tail was wagging away! Also, there seem to be certain women that Bacchus just adores and has to jump up on. His original "mom," one certain vet and a couple of young women at the farmer's market. I don't know what it is about them that "turns him on"!!! Thanks for all the fun stories! This list has definitely helped me learn about, deal with, understand and, most importantly, enjoy this breed. Laurie & Bacchus --- On Mon, 12/7/09, reedialer1@aol.com <reedialer1@aol.com> wrote:
