Hi, all. I hardly ever post to this site, and mostly just read the valuable information, but have found myself in a dilemma and need some advice. We adopted our pyr over 13 months ago and just love him to pieces. However, we had a new baby this past January and he is having a problem with the dog dander/hair. I've had to rush the baby to the ER because he was having trouble breathing. The doctors have advised me to keep the dog out of the house and away from my newest son. We don't think that our Cameron will be happy as a full time outside dog, so we contacted the rescue for help. The rescue wants us to transport back to Houston where we got him (we are in El Paso). This would be a very expensive trip, as we have one vehicle and cannot possibly put the dog in it with the baby. So, bottom line would be to rent a car, drive to Houston, get hotel and drive back next day. I wondered if I could find a home for "our" dog
here. The contract does state that I should return the dog to the rescue if something does not work out, but how long is that contract valid? There is not a single line that says it is valid for the remainder of the dog's life. I understand they are only looking to make sure the dog is going to an approved home, and I commend them for that, but when does the dog become mine to do with what I see best for him? I offered to surrender him to a closer Pyr rescue (still 4 hrs away), but they did not agree to this. The contract also states that I agree as the adopter to forever relieve the rescue of any liability caused by Cameron, but it does not clearly state that I am forever contractually obligated to return the dog to them, no matter where we are located. I want to make sure we are doing the right thing, but at the same time, I want to make sure that I am not spending a fortune when it is not necessary. We are devastated that we cannot
keep our Cameron, but it's not like our son is just getting a rash, he cannot breathe well around Cam. Please let me know if anyone out there has any suggestions.
Patty
