Friends of ours have adopted two children over the past five or so years.
These are also real dog people (Aussie shepherds). When they went to one
of the required parenting classes, one of them made the comment to some
piece of information or suggestion that it sounded just like what you do
with dogs. Some in the group were a bit aghast, but the instructor said,
"yes, dog ownership and training is great preparation for parenthood!"
