I have a similar situation.  Although we don't have kids, our neighbor has
9, plus all the kiddies who come over for music lessons -- so sometimes
there's quite a few next door.  One day I was out with the workmen, and
when the dogs started to make a fuss, I yelled out "Leave It!".  This had
quite an effect -- had workmen AND children next door all stopping and
looking to see what they were supposed to be "leaving".  Guess between the
dogs and my four art classes in a row, my vocal chords have gotten quite
strong <G>.
