Yoo-Hoo! Barb. I am
always here, when not working on the cabin or fence or goat barn. If I
don't find a lady friend to distract me, I may work too
much.
A poster on another
list was telling me about working her dog in pairs, and seemed to think that
best. Actually, I don't work mine that way, and in fact I don't think of it as
working them, I just expose them to the opportunity for them to work. I am a
great believer in
using the Pyr instinct without too
much remedial education.
I see advantages kin
putting a puppy of a certain age with an older dog who is well trained. But by
six months, I think they should be bonded to the herd as individuals. I suppose
there are methods and methods ...but before six months, the puppy really does
not have all his mental strengths, even if kept away from 'common' dogs.
The troubles you hear about seem in most cases to come from letting a Pry bond
to a non-livestock dog in puppyhood, or from someone trying to make a herding
dog, rabbit dog or something else out of them. That has been my
experience.
