[pyrnet] Electric Fences??
Hey folks,
Just last week I was bragging about how Luna would stay put on my unfenced
acreage and guard the house without roaming off...
The good news is she doesn't roam and just hangs out in the shade on a small
hill looking happily over her domain.
The bad news is she wants to protect the house from walkers/bikers/horseback
riders passing by on the dirt road in front of my cabin and she has come to
believe the road is her property to protect. She charges at the infrequent
passerby's barking ferociously and just this weekend really spooked a horse
and its rider with her "get off my property" behavior. This, obviously
isn't good and needs to be stopped ASAP. A fence is the logical answer, but
if I fence, I would really need to do the whole thing with a driveway gate
and all which I'm learning is going to cost about $15K+ (YIKES!!).
I remember reading somewhere that electronic fencing doesn't work on
Pyr's... I think it had something to do with their instincts to roam, but a
friend told me Luna's thick coat/mane might prevent it from working. Since
Luna isn't a "roamer", I am hoping I still have a shot at trying this route,
since I think I can go the professionally installed electric route for about
2K instead of the 15K for a traditional split rail/wire mesh.
Does anyone have any experience with their Pyrs and electronic fencing?
(pros or cons would be appreciated.)
Thanks in advance,
Adrienne and Luna in CO
