With regard to having a plan when disaster strikes...

I read a book by Terri Crisp "Out of Harm's Way", that really opened up my
eyes on the topic.

She travels to disaster areas when needed, and also recruits and trains
volunteers for the United Animal Nations' Emergency Animal Rescue Service
(EARS).

The books covers her experiences traveling to disasters like the
EXXON-Valdez oil spill, Hurricane Andrew, and the Missouri floods in '93.

I couldn't believe how many people just left their animals when a disaster
struck. Or, in some cases, they didn't have a way to get their animals and
livestock out and the local animal care agencies were overwhelmed and not
equipped to handle the situations that came up.

I always wonder, when I see something like what's going on in Texas, if the
folks from EARS are there and how many animals they are helping..

Definitely a good read for animal lovers..
