Re: [pyrnet] Vote on starved Pyrs?

Barb,

What a sad story. I can so feel your anger and frustration at this. Its amazing
what a difference the "authorities" make.

I have a similar story, but with a much happier ending. It happened
many years ago (all my stories are from many years ago) when a
wealthy woman "new" to Pyrs bought some acreage in the Northwest
Corner of Connecticut. She aquired some pricy "show" Pyrs and
started breeding.

I have a dear friend in the area who got her first Pyr from us in the early 70s.
Michelle is well known to the "authorities" and the vets in the area as the
one to contact if there is any issue with a big white dog.

After about three years of actively breeding, the woman had enough.
Neighbors of the "breeder" complained of excessive barking, and someone
had noticed a moving van at the house. This "breeder" bailed out and left
her dogs unattended. The dogs were in pens in the woods, and the
sheriff's department contacted my friend.

Michelle went in (she is 5' nothing) with her house keeper, and brought these
dogs out. All of them. They were filthy and had no food or water for a number of
days. She vetted them, had them all neutered and paid to have them groomed.
She single handedly placed all of these dogs.

She never told me this. Her husband did, complaining how I had gotten her
into a very expensive hobby. But it was a proud boast.

This is just a way of saying that there are many good people out there, and many
of them love our breed. And lets hope that for all the nasty psychos out there,
there are people who do the rescues, and step in when they feel they have to,
and try to undo the pain. I would love to see the woman who starved the Pyrs
actively exorcised from dogs in general and Pyrs in particular. If this is at
all possible. I doubt it.

But on the positive side, I want to offer a very warm and heart felt thank
you to all of you involved in rescues. Wish your job was getting easier - not
harder.

Warm regards,
