[PyrNet-L] meet and rescue possibilities? [Bloomington, IN]
Hi, my name is Eric Wacker, and I've been lurking on the list for
a while, as part of my efforts to investigate (and educate myself about)
the Great Pyrenees breed. My girlfriend and I have decided to add another
canine companion to our "family" (myself, her, and our current pup -- a
2-year-old female (altered) Anatolian Shepard/Chow mix, cute as they come)
and after a few weeks of research into various breeds and doggie
lifestyles, it looks like our top breed of choice is a Pyr. (The other
close ones, if you're curious, were Bernese Mountain Dogs and Bouviers des
Flandres.) Kara (my sweetie) is also fond of Newfies and Saint Bernards,
but I'm just not a big fan of either of those breeds, I guess.
It occurred to me (after a couple of contacts in our local area
weren't able to provide us with any successful leads for rescue animals)
that before we persevered any further outside of our local region, that it
might be nice to meet a few Pyrs, to get a feel for the breed, if there
are any owners in our region who wouldn't mind sharing their love of the
Pyr breed with a newcomer.
So, would there be anyone on this list in the vicinity of
Bloomington, Indiana (home of Indiana University's Hoosiers!) who might be
willing to meet us and share their Pyr pet experiences for a short while?
Also, if anyone knows of any Pyrs (preferably female, 1-3 years in
age) in need of a new, loving home in the Ohio/Indiana/Tennessee/Michigan
geographical region, we'd love to know about that, too. We can provide a
big house to stretch out (and shed!) in, 1.5 acres in which to run around
and romp with us after work, and plenty of trips to the local lake/hiking
trails/bark park every week. We don't currently have a fenced-in yard,
but we will in August when we move to our new home. (And we realize that
may be a consideration with a Pyr, that we may have to wait until then;
unless, of course, we find a trained dog who knows her name and comes when
called.) :)
Thanks for any leads you may be able to provide,
-E.
