I've replaced  the horizontal aluminum mini blinds in the house
with vertical heavy plastic.  The dogs can just push them aside to look
and patrol through.  One of my dogs insists on pushing his nose between
the blinds so he's laying against the glass of the slider and the blinds lean
against him.
No damage done, though they do tend to get pretty dirty, just like the favorite
spot they lay against on a wall.
