Re: [PyrNet-L] Care, Health: Luxated patella/Growth
I don't know if I'd start the glucosamine yet without any indications of a
problem; we don't have Ivy Rose on it, but will probably start her in a
couple of year. It seems to me that you'd notice something if the problem
really was a luxated patella, but the best thing is to have the vet check
it out. Our vet could tell rather easily just by manipulating Paddington's
leg; she did x-rays before surgery to be sure exactly what would be
needed, but it was clear that the problem was serious enough to warrant
surgical repair.
In terms of the weight, I wouldn't worry about it, particularly if there's
some question about the knee. We kept Paddington on a relatively low
protein puppy then adult food, on our vet's advice--she assured us that
slowing the growth a bit would be easier on his growing limbs and would
not affect his ultimate size (he's a full 32" at the shoulder!).
