[PyrNet-L] Tellington Touch

I found it fascinating that two different nights two different news
stations here had reports on the Tellington Touch. Very timely, huh? It
included demonstrations of it, too. It was stressed as an excellent way to
bond with your animal and get them to relax. If they are calmer they may be
more receptive to training techniques. Although TT is not a training technique
itself. In the 2nd show it said it was excellent as a stress reduction
technique and even said that it possibly may improve their health, because of
alleviating stress more.
Basically it seemed like the same thing I'd been doing with animals for
years: a very light circular massage technique where you gently move the skin,
but NOT a deep muscle massage. They said to do it in clockwise motion. Why
would it matter whether it was clockwise or counter-clockwise, I wonder???? I
have done it both ways and did not notice any difference to the animal. Anyone
have an answer to that question? Curious.
They did not talk about the background of the person who it is named for
much. I was thinking of you the whole time, Dave!! Sounds like a great way to
bond with your pets or any animals. Did not see anything all that remarkable
about it, though, to set it apart from what many of us have just instinctually
done to calm and make our pets feel loved and safe and protected and relax
them. Guess we were many of us doing it without knowing what it was called!!
I was glad to see it aired, though, as there are probably plenty of pet owners
out there that have never tried to massage their pets at all. Hopefully it got
through to them. Like I said, it is the same thing I have used with all kinds
of animals for years and it really does calm them down and help you bond with
them and helps them to both relax and trust you to be someone who really cares
about them. I have seen other pet owners totally mind-blown that I can bond to
their otherwise very offish to strangers dogs and get their dogs to be totally
relaxed around me in 15 minutes of one-on-one time with me gently massaging
the dog.
