Re: [PyrNet-L] Darkening of coat
Welcome to the list Wendy.
Where are the areas on Bart that are turning reddish tan? Sometimes if
a dog has flea allergy or is licking or chewing an itchy area the fur
will turn pinkish. I have heard that some foods cause the coat to turn
color, but have never had that happen. Also once heard of dogs turning
redish all over from flea dip.
Could it be that the tan is Bart's natural markings? Some Pyrs have
reddish or tan markings (usually on the ears or base of tail) where the
coat is perfectly healthy but tan. Sometimes those tan spots are more
apparent at certain ages or when the dog has shed. Make sure that there
is no scaling or redness of the skin or flea dirt in those
areas or evidence or moist dermatitus.
Good luck,
Charlotte in Virginia
