Dear people,
Now that I am a bit calmer, let me tell you about my uncle Dave who some of
you seemed to enjoy taking pot shots at.
I told you that he was a double amputee because he would never tell someone
that. I also told you that I thought that many of you were uppity snobs. I
dont really think I should have said that because I really dont know any of
you.
I do want to tell you that our little neighborhood is very unhappy about many
of your ways of putting down Dave. Please let me explain. We have a nice
little neighborhood and we happen to be the only family who has a computer.
Therefore, all the neighborhood comes over to use our computer for doing
research, sending e-mail to family and friends, etc. In fact, it became so
busy that Dave bought a second computer so that people had more to work with.
Our house is always filled with kids, teenagers, and parents or grandparents
who come over to use the computers and to talk. After school, the house is a
stopping spot for all the kids who drop in for something to drink and spend
time talking. The neighborhood is a very multiethnic place. We live in a
section of the city called "Little Jerusalem" because at one time it was
completely jewish. Now, we are fortunate enough to not only have jewish
neighbors, but also hispanics and of course us whites who have different
ethnic backgrounds.
When this whole ruckus started on the Pyrmet I asked Dave to print the letters
so I could read them. He did. Then as people came over, I would show them
the letters. Not that Dave knew, of course. Now you have been able to
alienate a total neighborhood. Of course, so of you could care less and I
realize that. But, there have been some of you who have been very nice,
pleasant people. There was even a nice gentleman who sent a letter
apologizing that he had gotten angry at Dave because of what Dave had said
about whizzing. In our neck of the woods, "to whiz" means to urinate and Dave
found it very funny and humorous when that gentleman referred to his dog
whizzing to him. Just semantics, that's all. Certainly not a put down.
I must tell you all what the Rabbi up the streeet had to say about all the
contreversory over training dogs. He said that you all sounded jealous of
Dave because he could get his dogs to do more than you could with all your
training knowledge.
I guess the main thing I want to say to you is that many of you have managed
to insult a man who is very highly respected in this neighborhood. He has
managed to train most every dog in this neighborhood because everyone knows
where to come for help on training animals. As I said before, our house is
like a coffee shop for kids and teens and more than once Dave has convinced
some teens that their parents CAN be right or vice versa. In a sense, he has
raised many more teenagers than just his son, daughter and myself. I think he
helps raise parents too.
He's a very blunt man. But, I'd rather have blunt so I know where I stand
than to have someone pussyfooting around but not really getting the message
across. I think all the rest of the neighborhood like it too because they
keep asking him for his opinion. He has seen a lot of bad things in his life
and yet that does not color his attitude towards anyone. He dealt with child
abuse, the war injury and the death of a wife. Yet, he is one of the most
gentle and understanding people I have met. Everytime there is an emergency
in the neighborhood, he is the first one called for help. Holidays are a
blast around here. Thanksgiving, Hannakah, Christmas, and New Year are always
a house full of people who stop in all day long and there is always food to be
eaten buffet style.
I could go on and on about what he has done but I wont. I will just say that
he is loved and very much so.
I hope that this puts to rest some of your fears, and anger. Now, I wish you
a pleasant week.
Bob
