Would someone tell me how you look into a pyr's eyes and suggest that they
*don't* have a soul?!! 
And by the way, I teach Religious Studies in a Catholic college, and don't
see those two realities in conflict at all!
At my mother's funeral, we read a wonderful contemporary "psalm" from a
small book by a New Zealand woman whose name I forget. It was called, "Do
dogs go to heaven?" and answers a resounding "yes"--we chose it to honor
my mother's deep love for dogs, birds, and other living creatures. Maybe
it's time for a re-run of "The Rainbow Bridge."
